Have you ever tried using a tool called a “Brayer”?? It is a tool that you can use for lots of different techniques, and today I’m using it for it’s most common use: spreading ink color onto cardstock! You can do this all different ways, but I love how this method is really impressionistic and uneven. In fact, I pretty much adore how this card turned out.
PLEASE CLICK HERE to watch the video where I made this card. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll be able to explain it well with words. I’ll do my best, but I think it would be best for you to also watch me make it on the video!
My card base is a piece of Bubble Bath cardstock, measuring 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ and folded in half. This color of pink is my FAVORITE…well, ALL colors of pink are my favorite. LOL But this is at the top!
Layered on top is a piece of Basic White cardstock, measuring 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″. I pulled out some random Washi Tape that I had, and masked off the edges of this cardstock. In the future, I would highly recommend using our Masking paper instead…the Washi Tape sticks too firmly and peels off some of the white cardstock when you remove it.
Anyway, I pulled out my brayer and layered 3 different strips of color, side by side, onto the cardstock. You can really see how I did this in the video. I used Bubble Bath, Petunia Pop, and Berry Burst. Don’t these colors look amazing together???
Next, I took my Dark Berry Burst Stampin’ Blend marker, and “flicked” color dots onto the cardstock using the lid of the marker. Have you ever tried this technique before?? It’s so cool, and gives the perfect effect!! Exactly what I wanted!
Finally, I stamped the cute little dragonfly from the Happiest Day stamp set onto the pink stripes, using the Black Memento ink pad. I also stamped the sentiment using the Memento ink pad, onto a piece of Bubble Bath cardstock (3/4″ x 2-1/2″). I glued the sentiment directly onto the white cardstock using Liquid Glue, and then I layered this entire piece onto the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The finishing touch was sprinkling on a few Iridescent Pearls, which I absolutely adore. They can be used for absolutely anything! Definitely a must-have.
I hope you’ll give this technique a try. You can find the brayer in our Annual Catalog, and it’s lots of fun to experiment with!
