Christmas in July - Creativity Abounds Blog Hop

It’s time for the July Creativity Abounds Blog Hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from all around the world who are here to share our creative ideas with you. We hope to inspire you this month with projects that inspire CHRISTMAS IN JULY! You may be starting here, or you may have come from someone else’s blog. For today’s blog post, I’m excited to share with you a darling card made with the new Woodland Wonder stamp set. Have you ever tried coloring with Watercolor Pencils onto darker cardstock? Darker than white, that is! It leaves a really neat look, and in my opinion, it looks completely different than usual.

I started off with a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, measuring 4-1/4″ x 11″, and scored at 4-1/4″ and 9-5/8″. I folded the bottom, small “flap” up, and adhered it closed. The top portion is the part of the card that will open and close.

I stamped the darling animal Christmas tree with Versamark ink, and heat set it with White WOW Embossing Powder. Then, I pulled out my watercolor pencils and went to town! There are lots of different ways you can use your pencils. I just chose to color like normal for today’s card. You could also pull out one of our Blender Pens, and color over the pencil to give it more of a “washed” look. Both ways look wonderful!

I adhered a 1-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ piece of Peaceful Pine plaid paper to the bottom portion of the card, and this Designer Series Paper (DSP) is from the A Stitched Christmas paper pack. I stamped the sentiment with Real Red ink, and bannered both edges before mounting it onto my card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

You can’t really tell from the picture, but I used my Golden Glow Shimmer Brush on all of the little stars in this scene! It adds just a touch of sparkle where you’re least expecting it! I was very impressed with how brightly the pen showed up on the darker cardstock.

My final touch was wrapping a knot of the Real Red Stitched Ribbon around the base of the card flap, and I sprinkled on a few gems for the perfect accent.
