Do you need a quick graduation or congratulations card this season? I do! I actually need to get this card in the mail ASAP! I find that if I need to make a card quickly, there are lots of ways to make it cute and put together, without spending an hour on the card. Let’s get to work!
For this card, I used the Good Feelings stamp set. I love this set because the sentiments are large, bold, and versatile. I love the fonts that are used in this set, as well. I stamped the “I’m just so happy for you” sentiment onto the Bright & Beautiful Designer Series Paper (DSP) with Versamark ink, so that I could do some heat embossing.
Have you ever heat embossed? It is such a cool technique! You do need a few tools to get started, but once you have them in your craft stash, you’ll be able to emboss any time you want! It’s best to use the Versamark ink pad for this technique, because it’s pigment ink. Pigment ink stays wet and sticky for a long period of time, giving you ample time to get your embossing powder sprinkled on before it dries.
I stamped the sentiment, and then sprinkled on my black embossing powder. A small bottle of powder lasts forever!! I tell you, absolutely forever!! Ha Ha! I like to flick the back of the paper to make sure the extra powder comes off, but sometimes I also use a tiny paint brush to brush off any unwanted powder dots before I heat set the powder.
CLICK HERE to watch the video where I made this project, and you’ll be able to see exactly what I mean. You’ll see that I first rub the Embossing Buddy over the paper, and then I stamp the sentiment, and then I apply the powder.
One of my favorite tools is the Embossing Tool Kit. It has a tray, silicon tweezers to hold your projects, and the Embossing Buddy, which is like a little pillow that has a powder in it. You use this powder to brush onto your paper before you stamp, and it helps the powder not to stick anywhere else other than where you’ve stamped the Versamark ink. It really helps!!
After the powder is sprinkled and the excess is flicked off, you are ready to heat set the powder. Using our amazing Heat Tool, I heated up the powder until it was all melted. It is so magical to watch the powder melt! It is kind-of mesmerizing! You can watch as the powder changes from light to dark, and if you tilt your paper around, you can see when it’s all shiny and melted. It doesn’t take very long, so take care not to overdo it! If you keep heating your paper, your project might catch on fire! (Ummm…ask me how I know!! HAHAHA!)
After heat setting the sentiment, I quickly put the card together. I layered the DSP piece onto a piece of Berry Burst cardstock, and then wrapped a Lemon Lolly bow around it. This ribbon has a tiny silver edging to it, making it really shimmer and add a special touch!
Finally, I added a few dots from the Adhesive-Backed Solid Gems. I liked how the Lemon Lolly gems pulled in the color of the ribbon, tying the whole card together.
You can see how easy and simple this card was to create, and yet it is absolutely perfect! You don’t need to spend an hour on a card to make it special. Enjoy!
