I sure am enjoying creating with our beautiful new 2024-25 In Colors! They are so bright and cheerful, I love how they look together as I create Springy, whimsical cards. And today’s card definitely fits that description!
Have you ever tried paper piecing? This particular card layout is such an easy one, using different widths of strips of cardstock to piece together this background. It was fun to mix and match after I had cut tons of strips, making it easy and quick to create!
PLEASE CLICK HERE to watch the video where I made this card. You can see the technique I used for gluing the paper strips to the card base!
I started out with a Basic White cardstock base, measuring 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and folded in half. Next, I cut myself many little strips of cardstock from the 5 new In Colors, using 3 basic widths: 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″. I cut them into little pieces, and then laid them on my table so that I could pick and choose from the pile as I put together the card.
As you can see in the video, I started at the bottom. It was the easiest way for me to start with a strong, straight foundation for the rest of the paper strips. I chose a few different colors, and started building. You can see that in each row, I chose the same width of cardstock, and then built up to the next row, using the same concept.
After covering the entire card base, I adhered the sentiment that I had die cut out from the Wanted to Say die set. I love how this set has the word dies, but also the “layering” piece that helps the words really POP. I cut the “Happy Birthday” out of Pretty in Pink cardstock, and the background/layering piece in Summer Splash cardstock. I adhered them together using Liquid Glue, and then layered them onto the largest rectangle die from the Nested Essentials die set (another one of my favorites! A great basic for your collection!). This was cut out of Basic White cardstock, and I used Stampin’ Dimensionals so that the sentiment really popped off the page.
Finally, I sprinkled on a few of the gorgeous, sparkly 2024-26 In Color Shimmer Gems. I’ll be using these a lot! They are fantastic!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this cute card layout. I can really see this with lots of different color combinations, like maybe Christmas colors during the holidays! Or all primary colors for a Teacher Appreciation gift? There are so many options. Have fun creating!
