Does this card make you think of celebrating a birthday, or what?! When my husband was active duty in the Air Force, one of the places we lived was at an Air Force base in Texas, right on the Mexican border. My son was very young, and he attended Kindergarten and First Grade at the local Elementary School in that small town. Guess what they had lots of at every celebration?!? You guessed it…piñatas!! This little donkey piñata makes me think of celebrations (and candy!), smiles, and fun!
I started out by stamping the donkey stamp onto Basic White cardstock using Black Memento ink. Next, I colored him in with our Stampin’ Blends, which are our Stampin’ Up! alcohol markers that are amazing! They seriously make you look like an artist from the very first time you use them. They don’t leave streaks when you color…the color just blends together perfectly and it makes it look like you really know what you’re doing. I used bright colors in this card design: Highland Heather, Crushed Curry, Real Red, Shaded Spruce, and the Naturals “Medium Light” shade. Don’t you love how all of these colors look together?
After I finished coloring in the donkey, I cut him out by hand. There are no die cuts that match this stamp set, but it’s OK because the images aren’t hard to cut out.
Check out the video where I made this card, and it shows you step-by-step as I pull this card together. You can see exactly how I made each part, and then layered it up for the finished product.
One of the details I love on this card is the Embossing Folder I used for the main card base. It is one of the three folders that is part of a pack in our Online Exclusives. I love that there are three designs in one pack, and they are all versatile and fantastic! This set is called the Basics 3D Embossing Folders pack. I chose to use the “star” image folder for this card, which I felt was absolutely perfect for the piñata celebration feel!
The final details used were the Stylish Shapes dies (of course! An absolute crafting must-have!!), as well as the Decorative Circle punch, which is another one of my favorite tools. I use this punch all the time for focal images on the fronts of my projects, because it adds just the perfect touch of detail to the medallion. Don’t you think??
The sentiment on this card is actually from the Something Fancy stamp set, because I really wanted a basic “Happy Birthday” sentiment for this card. Finally, the little Crushed Curry strip underneath the sentiment is just a tiny strip of cardstock. It gives the feel of using ribbon, but it’s just cardstock! And it adds the perfect pop of color to the bottom portion of the card, without needing additional gems or bows for a color splash.
What do you think of this card? I hope you love it. Again, as I’ve said before, I’m just loving this entire stamp set and have had a blast making card after card with these adorable images! Have I talked you into buying this fun stamp set yet?
If you loved this card, I hope you’ll check out the adorable Cactus card I made using the same stamp set! It’s soooo cute!
