Have you ever used the negative image from your punch or die, and decorated it as the focal image of your project? That’s what I did with this card. Using the Seasonal Labels Dies, I cut the large tag out of Basic White cardstock. Then, I punched out the bunny using our Bunny Punch, and filled in the “blank space” that was left with ribbon.
I’m starting to get my wheels turning about all of the different punches and dies I could use for this technique. I used a punch here, but what about our dies? We have such a huge array of shapes and images…I feel like we could go crazy here with different ideas. I’m going to have to page through my dies and see what else I think would work! How about balloons, or the Tea Cup die, or the Turtle die, or maybe even leaves and branches? Get that creative mind going! (And be sure to share your ideas with me!!)
But, I’d better get back to the card I’m showing you here! LOL
Using pieces of the White ¾” Frayed Ribbon, I adhered it to the back of the tag. Because this ribbon is so wide, it only took 3 strips to fill in the entire hole. It has such a soft, textured finish to it, that it looks amazing as the bunny fur, don’t you think? You need to make sure that the edges of the ribbon “meet,” so there isn’t a gap that you can see through. Or, you could try slightly overlapping the edges of the ribbon and see if you like the look that it leaves. However you find that you like it best, go for it! My ribbon did slightly overlap on the bunny, after trying a few different layouts to see what I liked best.
Watch the video to get an idea of how I made the tail, but I’ll try to describe it for you here. I used about 2 inches of the same White ¾” Frayed Ribbon, and I picked it apart until it frayed. Then, using our Tear and Tape adhesive, I kind-of “rolled” it upon itself several times. As it balls up, it creates this darling piece that I could use for a bunny tail! This is one of my favorite parts of the entire card! I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere the tail to the card, or you could also use a small piece of the Tear and Tape adhesive.
I used the Linen Thread for a triple bow around the bunny’s neck, and layered up the card on the Tea Boutique Designer Series Paper. I love the soft, spring-like colors that are found in this pack of paper. The Fresh Freesia printed piece here was just perfect for this card.
Tell me if you’ve ever tried this technique before, and what die or punch you used! I will need to check out my other punches and see what else I can create. The Ladybug Punch…how about golden wings? Or the Cloud Punch…how about the White ⅜” Glittered Organdy Ribbon? I’m going to have to try some of these out! Please share if you do, too!
