Have you ever tried using masks or stencils with your papercrafting? They can look intimidating, but they are actually really easy to use. And, they are super versatile. You can use them in many different ways. Today’s card shows the most basic, easy way to use them: with Stampin’ Up!’s awesome Blending Brushes.
I love the new Abundant Beauty Masks. In this pack, there are 4 masks that are supposed to be used together, and they create a beautiful set of sunflowers. The neat thing about them is that they are numbered and notched, which helps you know exactly how to orient them one on top of the other, in the correct order. Stampin’ Up! thought of everything when creating these beauties!
The first thing I did was take a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, and lay it on a piece of scratch paper. PLEASE CLICK HERE to watch the video where I made this card. It will help you really see exactly how it’s done!
Next, I laid down Mask #1, with the notch up in the top, left-hand corner. Using Crushed Curry ink and a Blending Brush, I blended that color over and over again until it was as dark as I wanted it to be. After removing that mask, I then laid down Mask #2. This is the leaf mask, and I brushed Mossy Meadow ink onto the mask until it was nice and dark. Next, I laid down Mask #3, which is the center of the sunflowers. Again, the notch and number were in the top, left-hand corner. I blended on Crumb Cake ink, swirling it around and around until it was perfectly colored. Last, I laid down Mask #4, which is the detailed image for the center of the sunflowers. I blended it with Copper Clay ink.
After finishing the sunflowers, I pulled out my Boho Blue ink pad, and lightly brushed this all over the background. It helped give it some texture and layering, which helped “ground” the flowers.
I then pulled out the Deckled Circles dies, which is such a great die set! There is a total of 14 nesting circles in that set, which is awesome! I cut out my entire image with one of these circles, and then wrapped it with some of the Pecan Pie Bordered Ribbon across the middle. The final accent was the Natural Wavy Trim, which I tied in a knot around the Pecan Pie ribbon.
I layered this circle of sunflowers on top of one of the dies from the Scalloped Contours dies, which I cut out from Mossy Meadow cardstock. Then, I adhered this to a Copper Clay card base. I love all of these colors together! They are a true, Fall color scheme.
I added my sentiment onto one of the dies from the Autumn Leaves die set, using the Autumn Leaves stamp set and Copper Clay ink. I mounted this on the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals, so that it would look nice layered on top of the Pecan Pie ribbon.
Finally, I added a few gems from the 2023-25 In Color Dots (the Copper Clay color). I love the touch they made on the card front.
After I finished the outside of the card, I decided that the inside needed some attention. I quickly took back out all of my masks, and made a few more sunflowers on another piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, and adhered it inside the card. This piece measures 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″. It really tied everything together!
I hope you love these masks as much as I do! You can grab them on my website and start creating with them right away!
