Chickens make me laugh! They do the funniest things, and they have the weirdest looks on their faces all the time. We have more than 30 chickens, all different breeds, and some of them I chose just because they have things about them that make me laugh. For example, Fizz is the one who has feathers shooting every which way on her body! And then there’s the new babies we just got, who even have feathers sticking off of their feet. Then there’s Hat…who has a “hat” of feathers on top of her head! I know, we don’t come up with the best names, but that’s another story for another day! Ha ha!
Anyway, when the Hey Chuck stamp set was introduced in our new Annual Catalog, of course I had to grab it! But this is the first time I have played with it. And yes, it made me laugh!
For the color scheme, I used the Earthen Elegance Designer Series Paper (DSP), because it has so many earthy colors. I wanted to add a pop of another color, as well, so the blues worked great. I took two pieces of 3″ x 4″, and tore off the ends to give it a shabby look. On the “wood” looking piece, I even crumpled it up a bit so that it looked even messier.
PLEASE CLICK HERE to watch the video where I made this card. It shows you exactly each step, which is sometimes easier than following my written explanation here.
After adhering the DSP to the Pecan Pie card base, I stamped that crazy chicken onto Basic White cardstock and colored him in. I used an array of different colors of Stampin’ Blends (my favorite markers ever!!), and kept coloring and blending until I was happy with the result. Then, I cut him out using the coordinating dies.
I cut out a circle using the Stylish Shapes dies, and then put that through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, using the “hash” folder from the 3D Basics Embossing Folder set. This set comes with 3 different folders, and I love them all! I use them ALL the time.
Can you tell that there is a little variance of color on the circle? I used a Blending Brush to brush on a bit of Pecan Pie ink. It made it look a little “dirty,” which is exactly the look I was going for.
I stamped the sentiment onto another little scrap of paper, and adhered it onto the card. My little accent is the Silver Threaded Twine, which I love to pick apart and make it look messy and shabby. I tied a knot around it and adhered it with a Mini Glue Dot.
My final touch was adding a few Pecan Pie gems from the Adhesive-Backed Solid Gems pack. It added a little “something,” without being too over-the-top.
What do you think? I love that cards don’t always have to be serious. You can have fun with your art, and these chickens are surely the ticket to a few laughs!

Hi! Love your videos. I just ordered Paper Pumpkin and want to add you as my demonstrator but I need your state. I also wanted to know if it’s possible to send a friend a paper pumpkin kit without having to do a full subscription. I tried sending this message on TikTok but it said you have to be following me for it to send.
