I absolutely love the color combination of this card! It makes me happy. The Night of Navy card base, mixed with the pop of Melon Mambo, is a gorgeous combo that makes me think of Spring and Summer!
Do you have the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper? The designs in this paper are absolutely stunning. And, I know this paper will be retiring soon! So, be sure to grab yourself a pack (or two!) before it’s gone. I love that you can die cut, or hand cut, out some of the images and use them without even having to do any stamping.
This card is actually the most basic card layout ever! I started out with a Night of Navy 4 ¼” x 11” card base folded in half, and then layered it with a Melon Mambo 4” x 5 ¼” piece on top. Next, I adhered a piece of the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper (3 ¾” x 5”) on top of that, and the card base was finished.
I die cut out several butterflies here using the Brilliant Wings dies with Basic White cardstock. These butterflies would have also been gorgeous cut out of our Shimmery White cardstock, so maybe you could give that a try and see if you like it! Oh wait…I’m thinking that if you cut out some butterflies with the Vellum Cardstock, and then layered those underneath some Shimmery White butterflies…bam! This is looking better and better in my head! Please try it out and share it with me!
Whenever I use the butterfly dies, I like to only adhere the middle “body” portion of the butterflies with the Multipurpose Liquid Glue. I never adhere the entire butterfly (the wings). I like to bend the wings up a little bit, so that they actually “flutter” above the card. I know they will flatten out a bit, after being inside of an envelope, but it’s still my favorite way to adhere the butterflies.
Check out the quick video here, where I show how I made this card. You can see how quick and easy it is to create! You could easily use all kinds of different prints of Designer Series Paper, and it would turn out just as beautifully!
For the finishing touch, pull out some gems! Any gems will do, but here I used the Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels. You could also use Rhinestones, the beautiful Iridescent Pastel Gems, or even some of the In Color Matte Decorative Dots! They add some dimension and sparkle to the front of the card without overpowering the main focal point of the butterflies.
On the inside of the card, I put a piece of Basic White cardstock, and then adhered a skinny strip of the same DSP across the bottom. It helped to coordinate the inside of the card to the outside of the card, which gave it a little more interest than just remaining plain inside. And, after stamping the sentiment with the matching Night of Navy ink, I also stamped a rose on top of the sentiment. Before stamping it onto the card, I actually “stamped off” once onto a scratch piece of paper, so that when I stamped it on top of the words, it was a shade lighter ink color instead of full-strength. This flower on the inside really helps tie it into the images on the outside of the card!
I hope you’ll give a card like this a try! It really is so easy, and the end result is gorgeous!
